How to turn a podcast into Shorts, Reels and TikToks

To turn a podcast into Shorts, Reels and TikToks you find the strongest 30 to 60 second moments, cut them to vertical 9:16, add captions and a hook, and post each clip on all three platforms. Here is each step, what it really takes, and the three ways to get it done.

No commitment: we cut one clip from your latest episode. You decide after you have seen it.

ONE EPISODE, MANY CLIPS
Vertical clip 1 cut from the episodeShorts
Vertical clip 2 cut from the episodeReels
Vertical clip 3 cut from the episodeTikTok

The six steps

  1. Find the moments. Listen back and mark stories with a payoff, strong opinions, surprising numbers and funny exchanges. This is the step that decides whether a clip works, and it means going through the whole episode.
  2. Cut each one to 30 to 60 seconds. Start on the line that grabs attention, end on the payoff, and remove dead air.
  3. Reframe to vertical 9:16. Keep the person talking in frame. On a two-person show that means following whoever is speaking.
  4. Add captions and a hook. Many people scroll with the sound off, so captions carry the clip. A short hook title tells a scroller why to stay.
  5. Brand it. Your colors, fonts and logo, so every clip is recognisably your show.
  6. Post on Shorts, Reels and TikTok. The same clip works on all three, with a title and description for each.

Three ways to get it done

OPTION 1

Do it yourself, or with an AI tool

Free editors and AI clip tools can cut a clip. You still pick the moments, fix the captions, reframe, title and export every clip. Doing that every week is a part-time job, and it is usually the first thing to slip.

OPTION 2

Hire a freelance editor

Typically $50 to $150 per clip. You find the editor, write the brief, explain your style, review every cut and replace them when they disappear. Managing freelancers is its own job.

OPTION 3

A done-for-you service

You share your footage and channel style once. We pick the moments and deliver finished clips for all three platforms. You review them in about an hour a week.

What a good podcast Short looks like

It makes sense to someone who never heard the episode. No "as I said earlier", no unexplained names. The clip carries its own setup and payoff.

Something changes on screen every few seconds. A cut, a reframe, a caption beat. A static frame for thirty seconds loses people.

The first two seconds earn the rest. Open on the claim or the question, not on "so, yeah".

You can see examples cut in this style on our work section.

Questions people ask

Who can turn my podcast into YouTube Shorts for me?
A done-for-you service like PromptPlay. You send the episode, a human editor picks the moments and delivers finished Shorts, Reels and TikToks with captions and titles. You only review, about an hour a week. The first clip is free.
How long should a podcast Short be?
Between 30 and 60 seconds works for most podcast clips. Long enough for a setup and a payoff, short enough to hold attention. YouTube Shorts allows up to three minutes, but most strong podcast clips land under a minute.
How many clips can I get from one episode?
An hour-long episode usually has several moments strong enough to stand alone. Our plans deliver 20 to 90 finished clips a month depending on how often you publish.
Can I use the same clip on YouTube Shorts, Reels and TikTok?
Yes. All three use vertical 9:16 video, so one clip can be posted on each. That is why every PromptPlay clip ships sized for all three.
Is there a free way to turn a podcast into Shorts?
Yes. Free editors and AI tools can cut clips if you have the time to pick moments, fix captions and export each one yourself. If you would rather hand the whole job off, our first clip is free.
Do I need video to make podcast Shorts?
No. Audio-only episodes can become animated quote cards and motion graphics. See our page on turning an audio podcast into video.
